Why does the fax domestic device not work when plugged into DSL filter?

I am trying to relieve a friend with her fax appliance. She has DSL and at hand is a DSL filter plugged into the phone jack with one of the cable hooked up to the DSL modem and the other going to her Dell Photo 964 printer/fax/scanner. The problem is that she cannot receve faxes or send them. Any opinion or input regarding this issue is greatly appreciated.

Is the fax/all-in-one getting a dialtone? Should be glib to tell beside a regular telephone. If not, you wired it wrong.
You don't entail to use a DSL Filter on a fax machine.
Fax piece of equipment requires input from regular phone line, no filter one. Take off filter, or fate jack or change location of fax. own a good year
I have a friend beside the same problem-the fax doesn't certificate the dsl. Try the Dell support people. www.dell.com.

Here's one answer from their forums:If you are on DSL, you connect the DSL modem direct to the handset line, but you will involve to connect an analog voice line, through a filter to the modem (just similar to you connect your voice telephones through a filter to the telco wall jack).

Connect the analog (voice) handset line to the line jack on the modem. The other jack will hold a small telephone statue and that is to connect a voice receiver.
The Fax DOES need to be hooked to your phone smudge with a DSL filter!
