Which printer should I use for printing photographs printed for scientific reports?

I print in the order of 400 colour photographs every month. These are photos of damaged equipment for reports. Economy is an influential criteria. Ease of use, low maintenance and down time, average reproduction, worthy speed, easy and cheap availability of consumables are other criteria.

Just something like any inkjet printer will give standard results. Even an inexpensive Lexmark that sells for more or less $20 at Wal-Mart would work. The big cost will be the ink cartridges. You might be spending $40 a month or more on ink (even from a company that sells refill cartridges like the two below.) And if for some function you don't use the printer for a couple of weeks (vacation or out of town trip) a nearly full cartridge can dry up and become useless.

Or, you could look into a refurbished color laser printer. Yes, the initial cost will be much greater, but over the course of a couple of years, you'd actually pick up money because the toner cartridges last plentifully longer, print out more pages, and don't dry up. I'm sorry I can't furnish you specific prices or recommendations because this issue can simply be resolved by you for your specific needs. I get a refurbished low end HP laser printer a couple of years ago and it's worked close to a champ. I estimate I've saved around $300-$400 by not having to buy inkjet cartridges. Just some food for thought.
